26-27 PICKUP SPARE TIRE MOUNT--This one is SOLD

Post by Jack Putnam, in Ohio » Fri Jan 12, 2024 10:47 am

Owners of the Model T pickup always had a problem where to put a spare tire. Finally Ford provided a mount in late 1926 that placed the spare on the drivers side of the vehicle. Yes it blocks the door, but so does the hand brake lever. The very narrow space between the steering wheel and the car body tells me that if you are older than 10 you won"t fit through there anyhow. The carrier mounts on the drivers side top support and on the running board. It can be used with wire wheels or wood wheel if you add the "y" bracket.
This is a new reproduction spare tire carrier for the 26-27 T pickup truck. Made using the original Ford blue prints. It is complete with the "shim",as supplied originally, that was used between the mount and the running board if needed. Available now. $700 plus the ride to you. PayPal between friends or add the 3% pay-pal fee., check, or pictures of dead presidents if you pick up. Jputnam(at)wcoil [dot] com or message through the forum.

Jack
Nice, complete with the shim to interface the bottom of the spare tire mount and the ribbed running board.

What would have to be changed to use that tire holder on a 1924 T Truck upgraded with wire wheels?

The distance between the top pivot arm and the running board is the critical distance . This support is 28 1/8 long.

Were there ever any similar ones made for the 1924 T Truck?

Jim.. I am not aware of similar spare carriers
Ford did not supply any side mount carrier for their trucks until late 1926
