Possible source for 26/27 Roadster top irons

Post by 70boss2wv » Fri Oct 08, 2021 5:27 pm

I've been looking for the metal bows for a 26/27Roadster for a number of years. They have proved to be quite hard to find.
However, while at Luray this year, I spoke with Mel, of Mel's upholstery. He informed me that he had begun working on making reproduction sets with an iron worker friend. According to Mel, his associate also farms, so the development of the manufacturing process was interrupted by agricultural priorities. I did contact Mel a month or so ago, and talked with him again at Hershey. Alas, no progress.
Perhaps if more folks expressed an interest, Mel, and his friend, would get back to working on the production of the elusive 26/27 bow irons?

Posting an ad in the classifieds, as you have, is a good start. If you know what to look for, eBay is another.
I know the voices aren't real but damn they have some good ideas!

I bought mine off ebay about 5 or 6 years ago with a new never mounted top and perfect bows/frame.. It was a last kind of a last chance purchase for my 26rpu because I had been looking for several years and was tired of looking..

You could try Macs. They list a new set online and note.....ships from manufacturer.....so make take a while to get a set made.

Well someone scooped me on those irons.
Also, I placed an order with MACs (just to see if it was real). and it wasn't.
They cancelled the order due to being discontinued.
Thanks all.
If anyone has or knows of set please PM or email me.
It would be much appreciated.

Would it be possible to cobble the one piece “third irons” that lock into the hinged two piece irons with some earlier year irons?
