Model T Friends,

I am looking for a *VERY NICE* front axle for a Model T Ford,

I am aware of the differences through the years, but the majority of the ones out there that are available in *nice condition* will be the 1914 to 1927 style TW or FORD (Non Dodge Brothers) it will be going on a speedster so it is not too important when it was made just that it is in excellent condition.

What I am looking for:

•No Rust Pitting,
•No Spring/Shackle wear marks
•No Spring Perch hole wallering/elongation
•No Severe Bends

Lightly bent axles can be easily straightened, thread holes can have Stevens Inserts added so these are not a dealbreaker if the axle is free of the listed conditions.

I have now bought three axles, and have been very displeased with them all, I can’t believe that out of 15 million cars built, and roughly the million-plus extra parts that were made, that I cannot find a very nice, above average front axle.

You need to find someone who has the gauges, hydraulic press, Stevens axle tool, Dan Hatch inserts, and the understanding of what is involved to properly straighten and align the axle. If shipping wasn't such a bear, I could help you. Axles need to be correct from front and side views.

Ken, the axle is for a friend of mine who is building a speedster. I have the complete Stevens reamer setup and can take care of worn kingpin holes. The axle is going to be dropped which is why it doesn't really matter if the axle is bent beforehand since it will be straightened after it's modified. He mainly just needs an axle that looks nice and has good perch holes.

This is the axle that was on my car. You can see a bend between the perch hole and yoke. There is negative camber on that side. The other side is straight. I was not able to straighten the bend with a 20 ton press and no torch.

I had another axle that I installed instead. That was a shame since I had a friend install Dan's inserts before I discovered the bend. The rest of the axle looks good but not perfect. If your friend is planning to bend an axle anyway, this may be a candidate.
