Re: Hayes Demountable Rim
Nice rim - the lug closest to the stem hole is purposely wollered out to ease in the installation onto the wheel.

Re: Hayes Demountable Rim
What Rajoracer said, the wallowed out hole is an original feature.
The new rims from Austraila are very nice, but don't have the one wallowed hole. I ended up taking a rat tail file to one of the holes on mine to be able to mount the rims and get all the lug bolts in.

Re: Hayes Demountable Rim
Mark, I am sure Steve would be interested to know about the relieved hole in the lug next to the valve stem. Next time I am talking to him I'll mention it. the rims can be fitted without the modified lug hole if that bolt is tapped back out of the way during fitting, and driven back out once the rim is on.

Re: Hayes Demountable Rim
Thank you Allan. I was able to fit a couple of his rims by the method you suggested, but decided on the rat tail file for the others for fear of ruining bolt threads at some point. If he has a wheel to do a trial fit, ask him to try it with and without the filed hole and he'll quickly see the benefit.
