WTB: Ford Babbit Drive Shaft Bushing

Post by Stephen_heatherly » Fri Feb 24, 2023 7:14 pm

I'm looking for a few NOS Ford babbit drive shaft bushings to keep around for rear axle rebuilds. I know bronze ones are available. I DON'T want to use bronze. Does anyone have some NOS Ford BABBIT bushings to sell? Please, send me am email if you have any.

Stephen

I’m under the impression Babbitt drive shaft bushings were poured in place. I had two that appeared to be poured in place, as I found out while trying to remove them without any luck.

No Joe - they were a separate item with it's own part number. Some if not all have a steel shell. I have a couple - I'll post a photo tomorrow.

Steve,

Thnx for the info, I have had two torque tubes, that appear to be solid as doing one I broke the tool I bought to remove the bushing. So I assumed they must of been poured in the tube, I plan on heating with a torch and melt it out some day.

Who knows what was done on the ones I couldn’t get out, I guess I shouldn’t assume anything with these time machines.

Depends on how many I have left - I have 4 T's & 1 TT (different part - no thrust flange) so I need to keep spares.

Stephen: I'm curious why you prefer Babbitt, not wanting to create controversy, just curious? Thanks, jb

Went out this morning to check for extra babbitt bushings and found my shop had flooded. Hate when that happens. Sump pump got clogged. I don't have any extras, but ill post a picture of one.

It never used to rain, but now it rains and snows. Someone's thermostat is obviously not set correctly!

On the left coast we are being hit with a lot of rain & snow. Snow level down to 1000'.
First time blizzard warnings in the San Bernadino mountains. Mt Baldy getting 8' of snow. All the roads up are closed.
Possible ski season extending into June.
All at at time when the "experts" predicted a another dry season.
Global warming's a b!3ch.

I have one in my collection. Gotta ask, why would you want to use a 100 yr old Babbitt bushing?? Not arguing at all, just wondering if it’s actually better than a modern bushing.

It's alot easier to ream & face with original tooling than the brass - IMO.
