Complete Distributor Conversion is a lot of work to install timing cover and coil, still requires periodic maintenance and periodic replacement of points and cap. The E-Timer, on the other hand, is a simple drop in alternative that also features automatic timing advance but is completely maintenance free, non-contact and never wares out for about the same overall cost.
The E-Timer also uses the stock coils and stock wiring to retain the appearance of stock operation but coils points never need tuning and never wear out since they are bypassed (shorted) with tiny fuse jumpers.
