If you are going to make it, you fit the covering to your top, then sew it together.
Bonus. Guaranteed to fit.

I can’t make a top boot, but I have a friend (a retired seamstress) who can. My idea was to use the standard dimensions to cut out a top boot from a roll of heavy brown paper I have out in the garage and taping it together….that way, I could “test fit” it on the car to make any slight adjustments. But after reading your advice, perhaps I’ll just let my friend take a look to see about doing it from scratch.
I discovered the rear window scratched my deck lid while running around with the top down, so I need to do something with it
