23 Touring door latch.

Post by big2bird » Mon Sep 22, 2025 4:21 pm

I have one stubborn door latch that will only open halfway.

Is there a picture or article about these things?

I have it apart, and something seems off. It has two springs and a pin, but seems to bottom out early under compression.

These springs look too long for the application.

Probably needs the springs replaced. I had that issue with a latch on my 21 touring. I tried stretching the spring but didn’t last long. I finally go a similiar spring at Ace hardware. They had a good selection of compression springs. As I remember I bought a longer spring and cut it down to work as it should.
Other places like Lowe’s and Home Depot have a section for springs. Or at least they use to.

Hope this can help. The spring is a one piece spring. http://www.mtfca.com/discus/messages/50 ... 1444743914
