I’m working on my 24 coupe. The drivers side window regulator is missing the roller. Has anyone ever taken one of these apart and can give me some ideas. All the gears are working. I’m guessing the spring has been over wound.
Thanks
Mike

Mike I have a 24 Coupe with window regulators similar to yours. Ford made 3-4 different styles.
It took me 3 years to find the missing drivers side and it was rusted stiff but all there.
While mine wasent exactly like yours it was another style that was complicated and I finally decided to take it apart to repair it.
It was riveted together.
I slowly took out the pieces and got it to working again to my amazement.
You could do the same thing. Slowly take it apart closey watching how everything goes.
. Take pictures as necessary.
It can be repaired. Once mine was degreased I used white lithneum grease in it. It works really smooth now. Your might need the same thing. White grease doesn’t get gummy.
Good luck!

Thanks for the info. Did you rivet back together or bolt? Did you re wind the spring? How did that go?
Thanks

I don't think there is a spring in those regulators. There is a groove in each gear and the gears are timed so that the piece attached to the window passes from one gear to the next as the crank is turned. I have freed some up and gotten them to work better, but I haven't taken them completely apart. I may do that someday and see if I can make them really work smoothly.

The regulator that I have didn’t have any kind of spring. It wasn’t exactly like yours but still fairly complicated but not much.
I just drilled out the rivets and used the same size nuts and bolts back in it.
I slowly took it apart and carefully noticed how it was put together. Once you understand what moves this and that and what it might need then you can begin to fix it. Mine was rusted tight and after cleaning and sanding then putting it back together with the lithium grease it works smooth. The parts were timed and had to go back exactly as they came out.
The grease is what’s used in door and window glides in cars, overhead door tracks and anything that rolls and slides. It won’t get gummy or hard and works well.
You can find it at auto parts stores, Ace hardware, and etc.
Yours might just need a good soaking in mineral spirits or a degreaser. Can’t tell for sure by the pic but at least it’s not rusted tight like mine was.
Good luck!

Thanks for the info. Mine is free. There does appear to be a spring. I’ll try to attach a photo of the spring. I’m missing the roller. I do have one on the other side and maybe I can make a pattern.
