1908 Klaxon horn, 6 volt.

Post by jiminbartow » Sat Jul 10, 2021 12:18 am

The below horn, advertised as a “1908 Klax Horn”, is for sale in the “antique” section of the Lakeland, Florida, Craigslist. I don’t know if the description is accurate, or if it works, but if it is what it says and functions, it might be something one or more of our members may be interested in. I assume that the seller determined it was a 1908 horn from dates stamped on patent plate of the horn. I saw it this evening, but am not affiliated with the seller, whatsoever. If interested, you can look up Craigslist homepage online from wherever you are and type “1908” in the search box. Jim Patrick

"Klaxon horn came around by the 1920’s" according to this.

Although that ridge at the bell looks like earlier push horns, doesn't it?
Cool looking.
Thanks
Rich
When did I do that?

"It wasn’t until 1908 that young inventor Miller Reese Hutchison patented the Klaxon Horn."
https://www.rmauto.com/blog/the-evoluti ... e-car-horn

Of course when it was patented, manufactured, and caught-on in popularity is something else.
I would contact the seller and request a closer photo of the plate or just go see it.

I just saw where the seller posted more photos. His phone number is 863-260-1010. The posted price is $150.00. Here are more photos. Jim Patrick

You can see 1908, 1909, and 1910 dates.

Those are only trademark dates, that Klaxon isn't an early one, those are rather rare now.

That Klaxon on Craigslist is the No. 6, and looks to be in poor condition for the asking price, it's from the 1920's as per this adv.

Here is a real 1909 early Klaxon
