After just learning of the sad news of losing Tony Wiltshire I questioned myself about posting the last day of the Michigan Jamboree right now, but Tony was the kind of guy who would say with that cool Aussie accent "go ahead and post it mate"!
So here we go with a couple of sets of pics.
The day started out looking like rain but luckily we avoided it. I put the stupid top up anyway and left it up the whole day. I much prefer running without it. It did get a bit hot the last hour so it earned its keep.
We had as usual several great legs of roads to run on, two stops on the lake before lunch, which was also on the lake, at a great little village called Harbor Beach. Here we had a photo shoot from their big areal ladder fire truck. Nice lunch at the water, then we briefly drove into the resort area and was able to see cottage #12, owned by Henry Ford from 1911-1917. See pic below.
Then off to 13 relaxing miles to three more stops, first at a real neat old lumber yard building which we drove through to get ice cream for an ice cream social and a couple of antique fire apparatus demonstrations. One was a 1925 TT chemical truck with a pump at the front, the other an 1880-something horse drawn pumper. The horse drawn pumper could out-pump the TT five times over, at 250 GPM! Next stop was at a huge milking farm (see pics), and a brief stop at a large windmill for a tutorial on those. (Too tall for a good pic) Then its off to "home base" on another relaxing 17 mile run. The roads that coordinators Brian Dowell and Tim Juhl arranged were totally great. Kudos to them!
This was a lovely, laid back quiet area that anyone would want to live in and of course drive their T all season long.
Time to get ready for the ending banquet. Enjoy the pics! Keep Tony and his family in your prayers.

I almost missed out mentioning what a fantastic greeting we had from the village of Ubly, they literally closed the town for us to have complete use of their main street for a mor ing bagel stop, plus time to roam around the various crafts, food and bakery booths there for us. Many townspeople came out to see the cars, take pictures, and were just so friendly and accomodating. It was really great.

Here's three of the more unique vehicles in the Jamboree. The Strohs beer truck is owned by our friends Bruce and Sue Stauffer. They came from way down in Central Ohio in Amish country. The other two vehicles I have no idea. They were just cool.

I'm glad Tim came and had a good time. That was the intent and most people seemed to enjoy themselves. I do have a request....if you were on the tour and took a photo of a Model T in front of the Ford cottage, the resort association would like a copy of it. Please contact me and we'll make arrangements.
We had 40 people from other states and for most of them (and many Michiganders) it was their first visit to the Thumb - those of us who live here call it "Michigan's Forgotten Peninsula" and enjoy the relaxed living the area offers along with its abundance of natural beauty. The people of the Thumb welcomed our visit and showed up along the roads and everywhere we stopped.
My thanks to all that came and helped make for a memorable Jamboree.
