26-27 rear fender

Post by Brent » Sun Aug 29, 2021 4:22 pm

It is time to do some repair on the ford. I need to remove the rear fenders. My question is about the bolts from the bracket into the body. Do these have a nut on the inside? I removed the rear seat bottom but can't see where the bolts come thru. I am hoping that these just thread into the body. I really don't want to remove the upper rear seat and the fabric covered side panel. Any info would be great.

As an owner of a 27 coupe, I'm pretty sure everything is nut and bolt. No blind nuts to my recollection.

My 27 coupe has blind nuts for the bolts holding the fender mount brackets. The rest are bolt and nuts.

The 26-27 Fordor and Touring bodies have weld nuts inside the body.

I have a touring, and a roadster. Both have nuts pressed and riveted into the body. You might need some wd40 or penetrating oil to get them started, or the nuts might break loose. They are behind the upholstery in the touring, so if you need to put a nut on the inside with a washer, it won't show, however, hopefully, you can get at least some of them in so that they hold the fender from moving out of place.

Good news. The bolts holding the fender bracket screw into a threaded section attached to the inside of the body. See attached photo. Sorry had to rotate pix to get it to attach
