Lang's spindle bolt reamer and alignment tool, how to use

Post by bmklawt » Thu Mar 31, 2022 4:34 pm

Working on a 1927 Touring, thinking about ordering Lang's spindle bolt reamer and alignment tool, how do I use them?
Lang's reamer is .502, Snyders is .504 and anything else I can find doesn't say what the diameter is, the spindle bolts I have are .5001, the cheapest I've found for an engine rebuilder or machine shop to hone them is $53.00 each, at that price I'd rather have the tool even though I'll probably never use it again and unfortunately there are no chapters near me to join and borrow tools from.
It appears to me to use the Spindle bolt reamer alignment tool I would install one bushing and opposite use the alignment tool to run the reamer through to ream the bushing then install the other bushing and run the reamer through the first bushing and ream the second one, just checking if I have this correct.

You've got it right. That's exactly how you do it.

Might want to just have the machine shop do the bushing reaming and the bushing face reaming too to fit the axle yoke.

A facing tool is used to thin the upper surfaces to make sure snug contact with smooth turning in the axle yoke.

Spindle reamer on top, note the narrow pilot end to start into the bushings.

Face reamer on the bottom, tool can be adjusted to just take fine cuts to get the proper clearance between the bushing faces.
