I owned a 1899 Leggett that had chain drive and helped a friend work on a Holsman High Wheeler that used hemp rope drive from the engine to the rear wheels.

It looks like a photograph rather than an illustration so I would say it was a a real vehicle. There were so many different prototypes and low production vehicles that it may be difficult to identify. Many were made in Europe as well as the Americas. I don't remember seeing one like it.

Michael, was that the Leggett that was on the "Tour of the Century " in Steven's Point in 1996?

I have no idea as I sold it to a fellow in New York. It was a bear to keep running with the glass oil drippers and dry sump and the timer was really antiquated and dangerous.
