Re: The black and white life back then.
That 1915 in the mud was the customized special that Edsel Ford drove from Detroit to San Francisco for the Panama Pacific Exhibition in 1915. He traveled along with several friends driving two bigger cars. A lot of photos were taken, mostly of Edsel and his car. Although several photos exist from the trip showing the two other cars as well. The Fords had a special memento book put together, copies provided for the other travelers. At least one of the books still exists, and several photos from it have been shared on various forums in the past.
Edsel's car started out with wire wheels leaving Detroit. Along the way, the wire wheels got replaced by wooden spoke wheels. I don't think a specific reason was ever given for changing the wire wheels out. There are several photographs showing the car with five wire wheels near the beginning of the trip, and fewer and fewer as the trip went on. By the time the car reached San Francisco, it had wooden spoke wheels all around.

Tom, thank you for posting these great pics.
Wayne, good catch on Edsel’s cross country T.
Dan, I had to give it a try on a couple too.
