1909 Ford Touring, John McCormick

I don't remember where this one came from. Maybe here. It seemed like a nice one. The condition is interesting as well as the luggage rack, extended top rests and relocated tail lamp.
Maybe someone knows more.

I don't recall seeing that one before, but I might have.
The car is likely a 1910. It appears to have steel running boards, although the detail isn't clear enough on them to be sure. The position of the rear hubcaps indicate that the internal pieces, axles and rear hubs have been changed from the early straight style to the later tapered style. Whether the housings and axles were reworked to fit or the entire rear end was changed to a later 1911 or 1912 would be guesswork. Zooming in close to the center of the rear end, shadows prevent seeing clearly, but I don't think it is a twelve rivet 1912 housing. I cannot be sure there are any rivets there (early 1909 style), but I think I can see one between the shadows. Given the "hatch-work" shadowing, I would expect to see two or three rivets if it were a twelve rivet housing.
The right rear fender has the butterfly bracket outside the fender, also indicating 1910 model. The left front fender appears to have rusted away from the running board (a place where water often collected along with corrosive dust).
I sure would like to find one like that hiding in a barn today!

Anybody know where the photo was taken? It sure looks like it’s in front of an airplane hanger. I worked at an Air Force base that was turned into a technical school and we worked out of a hanger just like that. Looks like the T was being moved into it.

The T has a 1927 NY license plate so I’m thinking it must be in the Midwest or East coast but who knows. Looked up John D. McCormick & found several in that area various ages 21-77

Looking at John McCormick he’s got a business suit on and wearing a watch. The suit style looks like something from the 50’s to me. But it’s a guess of course.

As far as the car is concerned it looks like it has had the headlights replaced. I’m not real knowledgeable of the very early T’s but they look like electric headlights from the back and not brass. Expanding the photo you can see the light socket in the back. It’s probably had a few “upgrades” over the years.

This pic is out of the book From Here To Obscurity. I have this book from my grandfather. It’s a late 1950’s book I think. There’s a side view of this car too.

It wouldn't have gone far if it still ran. No front tire and back tires are flat! Some people around here rent a hangar at a small airport to park their cars and TT trucks. So I guess that might have been the case where that car war parked. They probably rolled it out for the picture.

There's often confusion between model year and calendar year. If it was made between October 1908 and July 31, 1909, it's a 1909 model. If it was made in the last four months of 1909 or the first ten months of 1910 it's a 1910 model.

I don't recall that being in From Here To Obscurity. Look at the location of the rear door handle. It looks like it is up high. Would that make it a late 1909 or 10?

I have to admit I’m going by memory here if I’m wrong maybe it’s in another of my grandfathers books called Get A Horse!
