I ordered an upper coolant outlet to replace my old one which is rusty enough to be flaking apart like an apple turnover. The new part will come either unpainted or in some kind of primer.
Either way, to match the engine, the outlet will need to be painted black. Now, I have an old can of black Rustoleum laying around and for a little part like this, which will require two tablespoons of paint to cover, I figure to just dab at the thing with a foam brush dipped in black Rustoleum and be done with it.
Now, the question is: Will that hose outlet get hot enough to justify my going out and investing in a big can of high-temperature engine paint?[/size]

Rub a couple coats of the paint you have on hand on the outlet and enjoy.
My engine was painted with spray rustoleum and over the years it ages just like the expensive high temp paint.

No problem. It will be fine. If it's glossy and you don't like that for chassis parts, like me, just scuff it up with steel wool before you install it.
The inevitable often happens.
