Seamus Hnats father passed away. Michael Hnat

Post by Bob McDaniel » Tue Aug 08, 2023 9:14 pm

I just saw a post from Seamus that his father was in an accident Saturday and didn't make it. I hope this copy and paste will work here.

Michael Hnat, 62, passed away on Tuesday, August 8th, 2023 in Dayton, Ohio. He was born October 11, 1960, in Youngstown, Ohio, a son of the late Robert and Eleanor Hnat.

Every day of his life, Michael showed his family and friends how to live with love. He dedicated his whole life to being a devoted and caring husband to his wife Jill Hnat, father to their five children, and doctor.

Michael graduated from Chaney high school. He was valedictorian. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from John Carrol University. He was the first person in his family to graduate college. He attended medical school at Ohio University on a full ride scholarship.

Michael went on to serve for more than three decades as a physician in obstetrics and maternal fetal medicine caring for countless mothers and babies. He was always a calming and reassuring voice to women, especially those with high risk pregnancies who needed hope and special care. He is celebrated by his colleagues at Kettering Health as someone who touched many lives and brought joy to everyone around him. He also leaves a long legacy of medical students, residents, and fellows he mentored and taught to be the best doctors they could be. He frequently went out of his way to help patients in need. Three of his daughters had babies this past year and couldn’t have imagined navigating their first pregnancies without the wisdom and love from their dad.

Michael was an early riser and enjoyed long runs and spinning. He was also artistic and very creative, which served all his children well for their many grade school projects and Halloween costumes.

Michael and Jill were preparing to celebrate 35 years of marriage on December 30th. For all the days of their lives together, they sought to follow God’s will and help each other get to Heaven.

Michael will be remembered for his enduring faith in the Lord, remarkably generous heart, and his humble service to others.

He will be dearly missed by his beloved wife, their children Annaliese Hnat Creedon, Olivia Shields, Abigail Schatz, Seamus Hnat and Emma Pridgeon, his son-in-laws Eoin Creedon, Robert Shields, Alexander Schatz, and Malcolm Pridgeon, and his three grandchildren Clara Shields, Remy Pridgeon, and Charlie Schatz.

Visitation Friday August 11th from 10am-11am at St. Mary Hyde Park,Cincinnati, OH. 2853 Erie
Ave, Cincinnati, OH 45208. Catholic Funeral Mass immediately to follow at 11am at St. Mary Hyde Park.

In lieu of flowers, donate in Michael’s memory to the Baby Spirit Foundation.

I never had the privilege of meeting him, but his obit goes a long way toward explaining his admirable son.
