Dumb ass people
Look at this response I got from my want ad on this sight. It pisses me off that we have to deal with these asshats trying to rip people off. Administration needs to drop kick this clown.

Why do we drive on parkways and park on driveways?

Re: Dumb ass people
The AACA forum has been having a lot of "issues" with "new members" signing up making strange, disjointed, and sometimes rude comments or questions. It is often difficult to determine whether they are real people or AI, whether they are trying to be helpful and don't know how or are actually trying to be trouble.
Most of them do not respond to questions, if they ever come back at all.
A lot of the old regulars refer to them as "one hit wonders" lately.
I find myself wondering if this is the defining characteristic of the brave new world upon us.

Re: Dumb ass people
Believe it or not, I actually screen each and every new signup. They have to write a short reason WHY they want to sign up and use this site. Artificial Intelligence (AI) responses to that question are easy to spot, so they get booted. I also look at what country they register from. If it's in China or Russia, or some obscure country, they get the boot. In this case, that particular user is, believe it or not, legit.
The incidence of bot responses and AI users on our forums has declined dramatically since I implemented these checks. Trust me, I have WAY BETTER THINGS TO DO than screen every user who wants access to this forum.... but unfortunately, manually approving each new signup is the only way to weed out the imposters & bots. By doing this I probably prevent at least a dozen bogus bot signups every single week.
Brute force has its advantages... but it's time consuming and a royal PITA.

It doesn't get said often enough Jeff, but we crazies out here really do appreciate what you and Chris do to keep this silly thing running as well as it does.
I have many times wondered why I haven't seen more of that sort of thing here (recently, it is someone new looking suspicious almost every day on the AACA forum). I guess now I know!
Again, thank you.

DITTO! God I don't know how you find the time, let alone ambition to keep track of this forum Chris, and I believe Jeff is another? I'm bad at names. There's a place in heaven for you, however that surely doesn't help atm, where you could be doing something REALLY FUN! As I recall, this is VOLUNTEERING on your part! Thanks again and God Bless y'all.Wayne Sheldon wrote: ↑Thu Aug 22, 2024 7:45 amIt doesn't get said often enough Jeff, but we crazies out here really do appreciate what you and Chris do to keep this silly thing running as well as it does.

Re: Dumb ass people
It really is remarkable we dont see more scammers than we do from this website. I get more than a few in my personal email daily informing me they have received my payment of $499 for something or other leaving me their "customer support" phone nomber to call.
The scam usually goes like this. You call saying the payment was erroneous. They want your bank info to process your refund. Then they clain they erroneously overpaid your refund . Since they have your bank info they can generate a phoney on line statement "proving" their overpayment and request you refund the overpayment using Bitcoin. They keep you tied up on the phone during this process so you dont contact your bank to check on the alleged overpayment.

Re: Dumb ass people
I think the administration does do a really good job of patrolling the bad guys. I don’t run into them 99% of the time, but I will call them out when I do. Aside from the broken structure of the sentence and odd identification of a site member, I also know Kim’s correct email, so the one presented was a scam. Then I looked at how long they had been a member( 1 week) and no. of posts (1). It all adds up to being dishonest. I did receive a note from another member saying they had gotten the same message with a different respond email address. So if something doesn’t look or read right, it usually isn’t. I had one offer of parts I was looking for but could not get pics sent to me. Then another offer from the same guy, but again no pics. Then they disappeared.

I only send checks to Nigerian Princes who need help getting their inherited wealth out of the country. And only if the request comes over the fax machine, un-solicited.

If I have offended the sensibilities of Reverend Watchdog I do humbly apologize. On the other hand I find people who hide behind false identities hiding something. If you can’t sign your name to lecturing me in public you are a fraud and no better than the scammer I wrote about. We don’t need scammers, frauds or holier than thou types on here. Administration should block people who don’t identify using their actual name.

Oddly enough, forum member Tim Wrenn and I were discussing the relative appropriateness of “foul language” just the other day. I told him I try to follow my pappy’s advice: “Son,” he told me, “don’t cuss. It sounds like hell, and doesn’t do one damn bit of good.” We agreed it’s pretty good advice.

A long time ago, I heard something, don't remember who , when, or where, and google didn't help at all! However, in effect;
"Don't swear or cuss too much unless you need it to mean something. Because if you do it too much, then if and when you need it to, it won't mean anything."
I have tried to live by that my entire adult life.
You can quote me on that.

Colorful language!
Don't Cuss. Call Gus. He will Cuss for all of Us. Juvenile saying this post prodded loose from the depths of my memory that should have been left there. Working on automobiles. Especially model Ts will bring forth colorful language from time to time. Reason why my wife didn't like My Son's working on cars with me when they were young. #*&%@*#
