Hi,
Could someone give my any advise to a transmission from 1909? I heard that this should be different to a later transmission, but I do not know, how the transmission in a 1909 should look like.
Thanks a lot
Bernhard

Re: 1909 transmission
Do you need information about just the internal transmission, gears and drums, including the flywheel? Or the whole unit including housings and linkages?
Also, for a 1909, there is a major change in the first half of the model year in how the car was driven, and in turn all the controls and linkages. While the internal gears and drums remained similar, the housings and linkages along with the control mechanisms changed in major ways.

Re: 1909 transmission
The initial 1909 Model T, up to about serial # 550, used a two-pedal arrangement for gears, the drums inside are similar to much later years, but the two pedal used a long handlever to engage reverse, so two levers, the other lever for emergency brake/clutch. Low pedal worked like later and brake pedal too. (Also up to about serial #2500 the motor was equipped with a water pump and gear driven fan)
Early Two-Lever, Two-Pedal
The after #550 or so, the change was made to use 3 pedals, and one hand lever, which continued til end of production.
Later Three pedal, One Lever

Thanks a lot, that’s exactly the information I was searching for. So, two brass lever was only for the very first ones.

Re: 1909 transmission
I don't think anybody really knows just how many of the early Ts were two lever/two pedal. A lot of them were upgraded soon after the factory changed. Certainly, less than one thousand were manufactured with the two lever/two pedal system. Two lever cars I believe went somewhat beyond serial number 800, however early serial number 900s were showing up with the improved control three pedal single lever.
For whatever it is worth.
