WTB 26/27 engine/trans

Post by RoadMoyer » Sat Jun 28, 2025 9:54 am

Rebuilding a 26 Tudor with my dad. It has a working engine/trans but they are not the 26/27 style. Current engine has no stamp on it so not sure it’s vintage. I’m trying to figure out how to find the right style engine to see if it’s worth replacing now or waiting until I have issues with this one. Dad has a 23 to restore next so I could use my current engine there. This is my first T so trying to figure it out.

Ford engines in the '26 - '27 period had two bolt bosses on the back of the block that the transmission cover bolted up to. They had a wide brake drum & wide low & brake pedals & a couple other features.

Thanks! Those are the things I used to figure out it’s not a 26/27, but forgot to mention that.

I have a 26 bare block in Tennessee if you are close enough to me.
Give an old car guy a barn and he won't throw anything away.

If your current engine runs well, I'd use it until it quits. In the meantime, either look for a GOOD engine or have one rebuilt. I've got 2 running 26 engines, the first of which I'm taking out of my 16 to make it correct. HOWEVER, it has cast iron pistons (not a problem), 2-piece valves that tend to come apart and wreck pistons, loose rods and mains, and questionable transmission. The other one runs but the bands are rotten and stripped the last few feet of reversal into my shed. If you get a new to you 26 engine, make sure it's a GOOD one.
