Scammer

Post by Melba Nolan » Tue Feb 10, 2026 10:27 pm

I sold the Stevens Axle Tool and a person claiming to be me contacted the buyer. He wanted him to send him the money. He was calling from a 270-632-0562 number. I had several people interested so I don't know how he figured out who it was.

Be cautious when replying to ads. By sending a response “email sent” the scammers will contact you masquerading as the seller, claiming e-mail issues are why they are contacting from a different email and or phone number.

Pushing for electronic payments to odd email addresses with urgency and at odd times is a dead giveaway.
I was contacted by two different numbers and emails concerning the item Melba is talking about.
The scammers are scum, but they can be insistent and if we are not diligent in paying attention to our transactions they will take advantage of us.

Melba, I figured it out due to us having a person we know in common, who I contacted about the unreasonable demands that they were making while pretending to be you. Our mutual friend told me that he was sure it wasn’t you, and since we have done business in the past, I was concerned about the tone of the communications.

What a shame!

However, it took me just under a minute to find Scott's phone # on the web...so it looks like "email sent" is no longer part of my vocabulary!

I have a Florida phone number and receive no less than 1/2 dozen phone calls and texts every single day from parts unknown, many wanting to buy real estate and the others, who knows? They all go unanswered if I don't know them.

My wife has a Wyoming phone number, and gets perhaps 1 unknown call per month - so it's clearly either the FL # or something I'm doing to attract these people, and this Forum may be a big part of that.

I agree everyone needs to be careful. I do not do any pay system besides Cash or Check.
Every hear of a bank not having checks. I had 2 guys wanting to buy something but they didn't have any checks?
