So I have my moms 1924 model T, it was taken apart over 40 years ago to be restored and repainted. Long story short it never got restored, she came home one afternoon only to find it in parts and pieces sitting in her drive way. Somewhere and time many years ago I told her I would like to have it. Well I have had it for about 20 of those 40 years with the normal everyday thing that come up family has always come first for us. Last year I finally was able to build a shop and the Model T was put inside. During this time mom said she would like to ride in it again. Over the last year I have focused on getting it put back together to make moms wish happen. What a large jigsaw puzzle did I take on. The car is about 90% completed but I have stumbled on a few things that we haven't found on youtube. One being the carburetor. When the car is running the mixture adjustment rod vibrates around and will not stay set So it makes it difficult to keep the car running. This weekend I was working on the car and after getting the carb/mixture set I placed a piece of tape across the rod on the fire wall to keep it from moving. I know this is not what ford intended any suggestion on how to make this correct. Or do I need to get a rebuilt carb?

The brass nut on the top of the carburettor through which the mixture control needle passes is split underneath, so that if you tighten the nut, there is friction applied to stop it turning freely.

We need to know which carb you have, but I'm gonna go with a Holly NH.
Have you tried to tighten the "packing" nut for the needle highlighted in the attached picture? Usually once you get an NH adjusted it does not need to be adjusted with any frequency that you require you to leave the needle nut loose.

Welcome to the Model T world.
As posted above the brass nut needs to be tightened up a bit. That’s a good start to figure things out. If you don’t already have one it’s a good idea to but the Ford Service Manual. There is a wealth of information for Model T’s. Good luck.

Tinman,
I first purchased our T in 62 near San Fernando, CA. My idea was that you could not keep an old car without restoring it. No one kept a barn find as it was, I thought. The car came completely apart. Well Uncle Sam thought I needed to go to FL for a few years. Then flight school was higher up the priority list then a house and life. The car came to FL in 70 and only was painted, rebuilt and upholstered in 2005. Our neighbor was turning 100 and it was perfect reason to complete the car. Well it was 2008 before we could pick up our dear friend for her 103 birthday. 125 people greeted her for the celebration. I was more thrilled to have the car 90% completed that she was to ride in it.
So too long story short, not too short, don't give up on the completion. Your 20 years is far less than our time and you are considerably younger. IT IS WELL WORTH IT TO COMPLETE THE CAR.
We have been involved with the local Model T club that is great for help and suggestions. Think of a problem and several people will give many ways to solve it. But then, you are expected to contribute when you have an answer too. Join a club!

Give Her that ride as soon as it will drive around the block. The car does not haft to be perfect. I waited too long to give My Aunt the ride she wanted. She died at 95 before We took our drive. Tomorrow is not a given! Do it today.
She will be thrilled.

Thanks for all the information. Went out to the shop Saturday and made a slight adjustment maybe an 1/8 of a turn and that did the trick. Later that afternoon I took it for its first drive in 40 years. What an experience. Without all of the recommendations I was ready to buy another carb. Thanks again.
