Flywheel Machining

Post by fredsmlwd » Mon Jun 28, 2021 6:54 pm

Heart Surgery is forcing me to convert to Electric Start (1917 Speedster). From an examination of pictures, the only difference I see between the elec and non-elec flywheels seems to be the shallow undercut around the rim used to center the ring gear. Is this correct? I have an excellent machine shop nearby who could make a true cut and I'd rather not have to buy a flywheel. Fred Smallwood fredsmlwd@hotmail.com (228) 222-4184

There has to be a local member with a starter flywheel. They have very little value. Why re-invent the wheel?

Oh yeah, I have 5 or 6 flywheels that would accept a starter ring gear I’d give you but the cost of shipping would be 4 or 5 times the flywheel value. Johns right. Look locally....

I'd guess your non-ring gear flywheel is more valuable than a ring gear flywheel or a modifed one.
