Do 26/7 touring seats have a wood frame?

I'm working on the wood for my 26 touring. It looks like the seat bottoms sit in a metal frame. When I order the seat springs do they come with a wood frame that sit in the metal one or is the fabric held in place with Hog rings?

New replacement springs do not include any wood, Touring owners will chime in for sure, my coupe has a wood seat base which I had to make, and the seat fabric staples to the wood. Touring base may be different. jb

My touring has only the wire springs and the material fits on with a crimped metal edge in the seat spring set.

The seat frames are all metal except for a wood cross board (aprox 1 x 4) that fits into a slot on each side of the seat frame.

The springs are all metal. There is no wood frame attached to the springs. There is a sheet metal channel/flange at the bottom edge of the springs that the upholstery tucks into and then crimps/folds over to hold the upholstery in place. I don't think any hog rings are used.

I'll try to get a few pictures later this evening of my 27 touring.

When it comes time to order upholstery make sure you state that you will be crimping the upholstery to the seat cushions as original. In one case I did not and received seat covers set up for hog ring installation.

Fordwood.com has a copyrighted illustration showing all the wood pieces in your ‘26 Touring body. The ‘26 body uses more tacking wood than a ‘27. On a ‘27, the side upholstery panels slide into steel C-channels whereas the panels are tacked into the wood pieces in the ‘26.

So I've been using this to see where all the pieces go.

Thomas is the area you are talking about where there are C channels listed as 659 in the picture above for the side upholstery?

Or is it 675 and 603.

Also one last question. Number 670 do the bolts that hold the windshield to the car go through this block of wood?

I will attempt to take some photos showing the differences this week.

Using the front seat as an example, the wood pieces 655 and 603 will not fit on my late '26 Touring. Instead of wood, there are four stamped steel channels front and rear that fit the curve of the interior side panels. While the car is titled as a '26, the body is probably more correctly 1927. Similarly with part 670, while my '26 roadster has a spot for that piece of wood along with a separate riveted tab to secure it, the later bodies have a modified stamping that has an integral tab to retain the top of the cowl upholstery.

So, 670 may or may not be in your car depending on when it was built. Your windshield stanchions are held on with 6 - 5/16" carriage bolts, metal to metal. No wood is involved here. When putting your car back together, assemble the RH stanchion before installing the gas tank as the wrench clearance is tight.

I have found many differences between the 1926 and 1927 open car bodies such as the interior wood, doors, tank mounts, sills, and cowl. I believe that 1927 served as the basis for the 1928 cars and have found things like the latches interchange.

Here are a few pics showing the springs, the cross board, how the hip panel attaches, the cardboard "anti-rattle" panel in the bottom of the seat frame, etc. .... If you need any more pics, let me know. My car is a very late 27. All the wood in my car is original. Early to mid 26 did not use the little metal trim channel around the hip panels. I'm unsure as to the exact "date of change" They just tacked in place similar to the door panels. Front and rear seat areas are basically the same.
