Carb for Speedester

Post by Mustang1964s » Sun Aug 28, 2022 1:28 pm

I am thinking of having or trying to rebuild this carb.

What is the consistence of putting this on a speedster?

It's a good carb for a mildly massaged speedster

Hi Steve,
It will look very nice all polished up, It may interfere with the generator, I think the original manifold set the carb back some. Throttle linkage will be a little challenging. I think that is a U & J manifold. I have a very similar manifold on my speedster ( no generator ) with a model A replacement Marvel-Shebler carb so I can adjust the fuel mixture to my needs. When I had a generator on the car I made a adapter to set the carb back far enough to clear it.
Craig.

That carb or not... the manifold is a great start! I run a Winfield S-AA on the same manifold, very happy!

I just held it up to the inlet ports. The carb intake is facing the alternator.
Will that be an issue with rain?
The accelerator linkage will need some reworking. The rod that goes through the block has the push/pull in the wrong direction.

You will need to come up with a bell-crank arrangement akin to this (courtesy of Donnie Brown):

Steve

with carbs like this, the rebuild process typically involves the bushing of the throttle shaft and manufacture of a new shaft. If the rebuilder knows the intended application, an extended shaft is made so as to effect actuation from which ever side you need or desire.

Carbs manufactured like the OE-1 really should be mounted with the bowl "forward" and intake facing rearward, so your question is a valid one, and this is the answer.

A shaft for an OE-1, mounted bowl-forward (economizer facing the engine) would look like this:
