Strobospark

I dont want to start any discussion on its merits or lack off! I just want to come up with a set of instructions for the use and coil tuning using the Strobospark. I am only assuming that it was sold with a printed instruction sheet?

The video is helpful, but first you need to check the capacitor:

Hold the points open, Meter set to Cap Leak, press Test - should be zero or close
Hold the points open, Meter set to Cap Value, press Test - should be 4.7, but 2 to 10 will work

Only then go to Coil Amps, medium magneto, press Test and you should get 3 single steady sparks, and about 1.3A

In summary:
Lower point root end bend affects current
Cushion point tension affects single/double spark - you need a tool https://www.modeltford.com/item/5008CST.aspx
Adjusting nut affects everything!

It's an art that you will pick up. When it works on medium magneto, check high and low.
The cushion point travel should be about 0.005" - and all 4 coils should be similar
When the coil is at rest, the lower point must push the cushion spring up off its rivet head to touch the top piece. See photo
When the lower point is held down, the cushion spring must rest against its tiny rivet head. See photo
The points gap doesn't matter, within reason, as long as you have 3 single sparks and about 1.3A (1.1A to 1.4A)

When it's right, add a locknut to the adjuster to stop you or anyone else fiddling with it!!

Tim,
I watched that prior to posting. The video does show a couple points, which helps. I would still love to see a set of printed instructions. It doesn’t sound like there will ever be Strobo Spark collectors group so SN 0012 is a moot point  The coil that came with the unit apparently needs work!

Mike,
If you cannot find a strobotach, try reading the topic in this site, A New DIY electronic coil tester. It is very interesting and informative. Let's us know your results.

I drive a Model T ... Microseconds don't matter :D

For every Absolute Model T Fact there are at least three exceptions.
