different Ruckstell shift bracket

Post by KWTownsend » Tue Oct 10, 2023 9:57 pm

I have three different types of Ruckstell shift brackets. All are center shift. One has the splines and the rod crosses over the drive shaft.

Another was designed for the TT truck. The rod is on the driver side and goes straight back to the shift lock. This is possible because the TT truck battery is up front by the running board. On both of these designs, the bracket is bolted onto the front side of the flange of the 4th main bearing

I have a third style bracket that bolts onto the back side of the fourth main bearing flange.

I'm just curious, does anyone know when this style was used? Early? Late? Special application?

Thanks!

I believe that’s an early Ruckstell Perfecto shifter.

All three of mine have the first kind . One is a 22 Roadster and the other 2 are 26 Roadster and Touring. The one in the 22 was there when I bought it and the other two I installed.

Have two of that first kind, one has the nicer splined shaft, the other is square shaft.

The spine is nice for getting the shift arm where you want it!

The square shaft one may have been a modern reproduction. I had one and it never fit right.

Square shaft was regular until Eaton bought out Ruckstell, according to Original Smith which introduced the splined shifter - hope I got that correct Larry !
