Whatever it is; the tube has been brazed, either to seal a leak or join two pieces from different tubes.

The past is a great place and I don't want to erase it or to regret it, but I don't want to be its prisoner either.

Re: Torque tube...what's this?
Since there dont appear to be rivets, which would have been brazed also, must been brazed only. I wouldnt assume it was repaired.
I have seen these early DS tubes cracked @ this joint.

Re: Torque tube...what's this?
It's an early 2 piece tube
Interesting as to why it would have been stamped Patented.
Thanks...it's obvious now.... Doh!

Re: Torque tube...what's this?
The stamping goes over the brazing. My 'guess' here is someone with humour did the fix and said 'I will patent that repair
)!
