I, recently acquired a Patterson speedometer drive that uses a split two piece worm gear in the T transmission and a fiber spiral cut gear on the transmission end of the speedometer cable. The fiber gears are very often worn, broken, or even missing from the transmission drives. My drive uses a 4 tooth two piece worm gear and a 10 tooth small fiber spiral gear, which is the correct combination for use with a 160 or 490 Stewart speedometer and 21" tires, regardless of wood or wire wheels.
I am gauging interest in owners who might need the small spiral gear for the end of the speedometer cable and will seek a quote from a company who can reproduce the gear. If cost feasible, I will only be having the spiral 10 tooth gear, originally made out of fiber material, made, but the new repros will be made from Delrin, the same material some T large timing gears are made from. There were other gear tooth combinations for Patterson drives, depending on the make of speedometer and tire diameter.
I, already have verbal commitments from 3 other Patterson owners, not including me, for two gears apiece. That totals 8 gears. The company will make one or one hundred and the gear will be sold at my cost plus shipping to those who pre-order. Any gears available after the original orders are filled, will have a profit added in. Russ Furstnow told me there should be even more interest, as people have asked him for these gears in the past. If you need any amount of these gears, let me know by August 21, 2025, as I will be sending the inquiry for the price quote at that time. I do not anticipate any addition runs of these gears.
