Zenith T04 carb in exceptional condition - gone

Post by Scott_Conger » Fri Feb 27, 2026 3:20 pm

Zero throttle shaft wear
main jet and compensator jet access bolts have a little bit of wrench marks but are not objectionable
fuel coupling has a new retaining bolt (old one had some pliers marks - why on earth do people do that???)
no cracks in brass body
venturi is complete - I doubt it would survive removal and suggest it be left alone
everything including choke spring looks brand new with exception of steel screws which have age-appropriate corrosion that an unmolested carb would be expected to have

Not NOS, but very close. All in all pretty spectacular condition for an early brass carb - still retains its original finish

I bought this for the purpose of documenting replaceable parts and have no further use for it

With proper jets, this can make a significant improvement in performance in a "T" and cost less than the price of a rebuilt NH

NOTE: I no longer make parts for this carb and specifically, I am not a source for jets. This is not a carb to just casually slap on a car - you will need to know what you are getting into with respect to an intake manifold, etc.

Other than pushing other people's ads out of sight, what exactly is the point of REPOSTING an old ad and then saying "SOLD"

all you have to do is change your heading to SOLD and that's that - and you don't end up reposting above everyone else's ad.

I'm with you. Its likely because people don't know how to update their post by clicking on the pencil icon to put SOLD in the heading. That action doesn't advance the post

Scott, I have collected a number of aftermarket carburetors which I hope to be able to try on a running engine before my health prevents me from doing so. A Zenith o4 is one that I don't have, however you stated "that with proper jets" this could make a significant improvement in the performance of a T. That statement makes me question, what would be the "right" jets. Where could I get them. I am not a machinist like you and don't have the capability to make my own.

Either an adjustable jet or a couple jets larger/smaller than it has now.

Sometimes they run just fine as-is. You never know. I have not had this on a T so I do not know.

I purchased this to make drawings for making adjustable jets for sale. Over the years I have discovered that I couldn't sell adjustable jets for any Zenith, including the popular S4BF, so there was no way I was going to invest time making them for this model.

My expectation for sales was based on Stan Howe's (apparently) very popular adjustable jets that he put on his restorations and offered for sale. My jets, while beautiful, functional, and available, all fell flat on their face. Apparently the consensus is that only Stan was capable of restoring carbs and making parts and no one else is, because I have built up a large supply of parts...boxes and boxes of new parts that I cannot sell and now am no longer interested in even trying.

This is an adjustable needle for a purpose made jet for S4BF and while it won't fit a T04, an adjustable jet for a T04 would look similar:

I'm beginning to see why folks simply scrap parts or throw them away

I couldn't even give this thing away and it will cost me 10 gallons of gas to get it to a scrapper so there is only one option left. I need the shelf space.

Good luck to the guy who wants $200 for his identical dirty carb. This stuff is pretty much worthless these days.

Thanks for asking...My price was "make an offer". That was met with silence since listing it, so it's now gone. I've no desire to beg people to buy something they don't want.

Too bad...it was a nice carb but I have too much stuff and it's something that needed to go, so now it's gone. Unfortunately, a lot of other stuff will be following it soon. I can't keep it all and no one wants this brass carb stuff anymore. I couldn't sell parts for these things and now I can't sell the carbs themselves that I purchased to document those parts. Oh, how the world turns.

Except for Ed's question, I would have never bumped this again...Some people pimp their junk every two days and then just HAVE to bump one more time just to say "SOLD" - pushing everyone else's add out of sight. I won't do that. A couple of bumps, with the exception of this carb, almost always just once a month and that's it. This got no nibbles in 3 weeks so that's that.

Ed, I hope you ultimately find what you're looking for...and again, thanks for asking.
