Do new coil points need to be prepped?

Post by DHort » Wed Sep 09, 2020 10:44 pm

When I receive new points from a vendor do they need to be cleaned in any way or prepped in any way before they are installed?

I always clean the contacts with alcohol or carb cleaner, something that was recommended here on the forum a number of years ago. jb

I soak them in lacquer thinners to remove any preservative/lubricant from them, paying particular attention to the points and the cushion spring. The cushion spring action needs checking, and the rivet attended to to set the spring. Then they are good to go. Make sure the points are correctly aligned once they are installed.

Hope this helps,

Ask the vendor and then post their answer here.
