Traffic Light Finders

Post by Mark Osterman » Tue Oct 13, 2020 7:06 pm

Well, I’m enjoying the new top on my runabout and I’ve figured out how to see through the rear windows ok. But the stop lights are a different story. Driving predominately in a city I stop at many traffic lights that are impossible to see unless I crouch down really far to look up. Now mind you many of these have lights on the cross street that count down but not all of them. I tried one of those plastic crescent shaped stop light viewers but it didn’t work at all. Any other options?

Many options
1. Might be able to locate when of those blind spot mirrors outside the vehicle and aimed up

2. Don't pull so close to the white line so you can see the traffic light

3. If you are really desperate

The past is a great place and I don't want to erase it or to regret it, but I don't want to be its prisoner either.

Not period looking, but check out lightinsight.com. They offer a flat plastic fresnel lens that sticks to the inside of your windshield using only water.

I really like a sun visor... When my top irons were incorrect, I made a roof extension, that was effectively a sun visor. It was fine in rural-ish driving around Petoskey (northern Michigan), but was painful when we moved to the Detroit suburbs.... So I feel your pain!

I have removed that top and irons and have proper ones, without a sun visor. But, we are back in Petoskey, now! LOL! 😜

I have these traffic light finders on all of T's. They work great!

I need to try one of those light finders. At 6'4 I have to really bend my head down in my 27 Tudor to see the lights.

Even at 5'10" with the short nose on the T's and a bit of extension over the windshield on the huckster, I too have to bend some to see the traffic lights sometimes. We get use to stopping just before the cross walk marking in our modern cars, so that just carries over to driving a T. If the sensors are in the pavement, don't want to stop too far back and not trip them.
I know the voices aren't real but damn they have some good ideas!

The traffic lights that are really problematic are the old timers that hang on a cable in the middle of the intersection.
The inevitable often happens.

The visor on my Tudor is bad that way. It's shiny paint reflects the traffic light colors in the hood for me. It sometimes is tough when there's are multiple lights for several lanes.

The worst is the traffic lights right above you as you stop, not on the opposite side of the intersection. That is how they all are in Eastern Europe. Work around it. My $.02. Frank
