UPDATE: Model Ts Attracting Model Ts in the Malibu Hills, March 13th - 15th

**UPDATE**

EXTENDED through lunch Monday, March 15th.

Hello all,

I just heard through the grapevine that those un-organized Model Ts that will independently be tooling around the Malibu Hills on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, March 13th - 15th will be parking their trucks and trailers at, and will be staying at, the LaQuinta Inn, Thousand Oaks, CA. $88 per night total for two queen beds, ...and, a bubbling central jacuzzi. Telephone #: (805) 499-5910. Anthony at the front desk is our ally. They say that this hotel location is superior to the one that was leaked previously.

By the way, I saw today on the MTFCA General Forum that cars from Ventura CA have taken an interest in this spontaneous spring non-tour. And, a T from Orange County just jumped in. And some horseless Carriages. If you might want to be in the area too that weekend please let me, and the LaQuinta Inn, know and I will plug that good news in to the critical mass that is building.

PASS THE WORD

It sounds like several random Southern California Model T'ers are going to be camping out for a few days this spring in the Malibu Hills. I hear they will be social distancing outside the hotel around their cars at cocktail hour (5PM) on Friday March 12, then at 9:AM on Saturday driving to the secluded Paradise Cove Beach Cafe and back, then on Sunday morning (9:AM) touring the charming Santa Paula valley and having lunch on the terrace at the Spanish Hills Country Club. Then, Monday morning, exploring the local foothills and trailering home after lunch.

No one is actually "organizing" this. There is no registration or fee. These Ts and people are just showing up on their own as so called independent renegade wildcatters.

I am going to be there to see what happens and I am interested in who else out there might like this kind a thing. Wouldn't it be great if it snowballed into a grand Model T weekend, at least for those of us who need to get our cars out of their garages and get some air.

Please give your thoughts here on this random "Model Ts attracting Model Ts" concept and if you too might want to be there with your T to check it out.

I'm interested, I've been attending many "unorganized" events this past year mainly dual sport riding. I live in Ventura county and could easily drive to this non-event but concerned with the speed of traffic on highway 1 (PCH). Could trailer it down to a spot if needed. I might be able to rally some other local T's to this non-event since I'm the treasurer of the Ventura model t club.

...concerned with the speed of traffic on the 101.

You can skip the freeways. From Simi Valley there's Santa Susana Pass Road, then Topanga Canyon all the way down to PCH. From Oxnard or Camarillo there are off-freeway roads too. The alternate routes take longer partly because they're less direct, but if you're an old retired guy with plenty of time that's no problem. :)
The inevitable often happens.

Steve,
Also, the LaQuinta Inn, Thousand Oaks has ample truck and trailer parking set aside for that weekend. Their two bed queen rooms are $88/night total. Telephone #: (805) 499-5910. Anthony at the front desk is our ally. My family is trailering in from Hollywood and staying there on the nights of March 12th and 13th. And, I saw up top in this thread that others will be too. Smiles.

A lot of Model T’s call Thousand Oaks home - more than half a dozen within a mile or so from the La Quinta.
Welcome!

When I lived in Thousand Oaks I used to drive the Santa Monica Mountains regularly and Pacific Coast Highway into Santa Monica as well. Lots of beautiful scenery and actually not that heavily traveled. Not much in the way of level ground. Pretty much all uphill and downhill. A Ruckstell is certainly a plus and external brakes pretty much a necessity. I any of you have the opportunity to make the trip, do so. I don't think that you'll regret it.
Phil, in addition to Steve's post, I'm sure you already know that Madera Rd. is an easy hop from your place to T.O. I can't think of a reason to have to drive on the 101.

Ain't science grand ? With the aid of the internet we're now able to predict utterly random coincidences such as when two or more Model T's happen to be driving on the same road on the same day at the same time.

At this rate, maybe one day in the future the weatherman will be able to tell us if it's gonna rain tomorrow.

Received your emails Steve, thanks for contacting me. Friday night libations and Saturday sounds good to me. For Sunday I'm probably not the best to find a park or a scenic drive. Dennis Mattock (our club President) will be contacting you. He's lived in the area all his life and probably has a better idea on where we might go on Sunday. I do have one idea, but I need to see if the place is open first before I submit the idea.

Thanks

Thanks Philip,

Those following this thread are discovering that there are some really nice Model T'ers up that way. And those coming to Thousand Oaks in March will benefit from their guidance.

No one is able to pinpoint the genesis of this phenomenon. No one is organizing it. But, my family will be there to see what these other unsanctioned renegade wildcats will be up to. That Paradise Cove Beach Cafe looks particularly attractive. So does having Sunday lunch at an exclusive private country club.

Smiles
