Finally some Mercury progress

Post by AndyClary » Wed Aug 18, 2021 6:53 pm

It seems I haven’t gotten anything done on the Mercury in months, so today I set the body on the chassis. Now I can finalize the chassis mounts and design a new fuel tank. I moved the body back an inch and a half for more “Rajo room”. And yes I tried not to think about the paint cost when it was hanging in the air.

Mercury(s) rising

Post by Dropacent » Thu Aug 19, 2021 11:01 pm

It’s a slow go here, too, Andy. I try to do just a a little bit everyday. Maybe another night the windshield will be fit to my liking. Then, one more hood panel, then mount the fenders, then……….

Looking good Tim, love your radiator shell. My wife is much happier now that it’s starting to look like a car again.

FANTASTIC!!!
Looking good Andy. Those Mercury bodies are the sexiest things outside the pages of Playboy Magazine.

Had a little time today to assemble the headlamps. Much better than the street rod sealed beams that came with the car.

Got the radiator shell brackets detailed yesterday. They had fillet welds that looked funky. Some filing, sanding and light polishing got them looking about right. I can start assembling the shell to the radiator now. Before and after shot.

Unfortunately I’ve got a couple motors in front of mine. I’m trying to knock out these little parts while I listen to baseball on the radio.

Got the radiator in place so I can fit the hood. Things aren’t exactly where they were before paint.

Put some of the easier bits on the Mercury. Hope it motivates me to do the harder stuff.
