New Forum Feature and OFF Topic Forum created
Obviously you noticed the news scroll at the top of the page. Hopefully it's slowwww enough for you to read
New Forum Features:
Memberlist now searchable by name, car type, membership region. Find your buddies easily now! Try it here
Memberlist
.
Previous and Next Topic buttons added to topics while you read. No need to go back to the index if you just want to read everything in the forum without having to go back to the index.
.
.
OFF TOPIC FORUM
To reduce the number of emails we (Chris and I) get about OT posts, I'm making an executive decision (that's why you pay me the BIG bucks as a volunteer). All OT threads will be moved to the OT forum. Benefits are:
The clutter on the main forum will be reduced
My email support inbox will reduce substantially
The time I spend responding to emails about OT will be eliminated completely
The drawbacks
You guys will have to click one more place to find OT posts.
. .
I've already implemented this and a few folks have noticed. The fact that nobody has complained AND there are several new OT posts in that forum tells me something. It's working. By all means, go ahead and complain. Just complain in the OT forum which is now located here:
viewforum.php?f=16
This message will magically destruct in 30 days (not really, but it will be sticky for that long)

Re: New Forum Feature and OFF Topic Forum created
I like the upgrades and explanations of how to use them.
The old Forum was nice until the spammers hit, then it had to be upgraded. Good choice on a new format!
The transition has been relatively seamless, and keeping the old forum's info available is appreciated. Some will whine and complain, but some will whine and complain about anything, just a lifestyle.
Thanks to those of you who made the decisions and did the work.

Jeff
Thank you for all your hard work and for implementing next and previous.
My brain first thought next was next down and previous was up. Luckily my mouth told my fingers it was opposite.
Been waiting for new software for several years
Thanks to you and Chris for making this happen.

Re: New Forum Feature and OFF Topic Forum created
I'm reading complaints about posts getting deleted or moved to the OT forum.
Frankly, I think the MTFCA forum does not get enough traffic to segregate the posts to their separate subforums. I'd just make two subforums, one for all classifieds (parts and cars) and another for discussion (tech, photos, OT, etc...).
That said, I do like the new forum software.

Re: New Forum Feature and OFF Topic Forum created
Not that anyone reads it, but it might be helpful to update the Forum rules to include how a persons post should be assigned to a certain category. It seemed pretty vague and maybe an update would be useful? At least it could be referred to when a situation calls for it I suppose.
Further, I would hope that any post containing reference to race, religion, politics, non T jokes, non T cartoons or other non model T related subjects would not be allowed and be removed from the forum completely when found.
This is a model T site. It appears that the intent should be for it to be a resource used by people interested in model T's. There are literally 1,000's of web sites a person can post to or read about non T topics. Don't let messages about anything else pollute this site please!
Just my 2 cents worth.

Re: New Forum Feature and OFF Topic Forum created
I like the way you think. As long as the administrators move non-T stuff from The Forum to the OT section, everything should be OK. Much easier if posters just put OT in OT to begin with. And as time goes by, I think most posters will realize this and put their threads in the correct location.fxlew wrote: ↑Thu Mar 21, 2019 10:29 amFurther, I would hope that any post containing reference to race, religion, politics, non T jokes, non T cartoons or other non model T related subjects would not be allowed and be removed from the forum completely when found.

Re: New Forum Feature and OFF Topic Forum created
I just tried out the new search feature. Being able to find people by their real names is an excellent improvement.

Re: New Forum Feature and OFF Topic Forum created
I can tell you it was brutal trying to get this implemented. The coders don’t understand that there are still folks alive who don’t go by handles and still use their real names. Going forward I think they will add it as a standard feature instead of a custom coding solution. At least I can hope for that.
