Not a Mercury but don't know which of many others it might be. Would need a better side or rear view to tell. Got any of those handy?

That picture is the county agent telling the rancher that he shouldn't be using a shovel to clean out the horse stalls, he should either use a pitch fork or get his wife to do it!

Most of the Mercury bodies I have seen have the tail swept back from the body. That trunk has a lid like Dodge Roadsters. Lots of other companies made speedster bodies. It's pretty nice if it's a home built.
I would say the license plate is a 1920.
Cool picture. Idaho had it's share of speedsters.

Near as I can tell? The front half of the body looks similar to Donnie Brown's. However the back look like it could even be a common runabout turtle deck? (Maybe?) The gasoline tank, whatever shape it is, is likely inside the trunk deck. Although it could even be rear frame mounted (seen that a couple times also!). Either way, it would likely have been either pressurized or had the carburetor fed by a vacuum tank. One of the boat-tails I had used a vacuum tank. The other one was pressurized by a hand pump. Low setting speedsters with gasoline tanks moved toward the rear need help with fuel flow.
Speedster bodies in the general style like Donnie's were made by several companies, including Ames and Champion.
