This arrangement was much more efficient than any other car manufacturer. Oldsmobile and Buick might have been as efficient in 1910 or so.

I looked through a few different books about the beginnings of the assembly line and they seemed to contradict each other a bit. I know there were some tests done to prove the concepts and then they built the first production line, but the articles I read seemed to contradict each other on the dates. Is there a document I can reference that has the most accurate description of the timelines as they switched over to the assembly line? I have a car that was built about that time and I have been curious about how it was assembled.

A most authoritative source is the publication Ford Methods and The Ford Shops, 1914-1915 by Arnold and Faurote.

See Chapter V, starting on page 135.
