How do you install string in headlight?

Post by DHort » Sat Apr 06, 2019 9:46 pm

I see where the string goes in the grove on the reflector. How do you get it to stay in place when you put the lens on when the headlight is on the car?

a small bead of silicone or RTV sealant in the reflector groove will do the trick. Leave the "open" end of the cord to line up at one of the reflector slots so that it can be positioned such that any condensate on the reflector or lense is free to drain out. I lay the glass lens on top of the cord and add a small weight to the lens to let it all cure flat in a perfect plane. Install the reflector the next day...

Use a drop of superglue at 6 or 8 spots in the reflector rim. Press the string in, then install the lens.

I used rubber cement when I did my headlights. Strong enough to hold in place until assembled, and can easily be removed at a later date.

I used a few drops of rubber cement...very sparingly in a few spots around the circle.

That held it enough to finish the installation.

I used several small dabs of bearing grease, just enough to be sticky. It cleans off easily.

I too have used grease, because that is what I had/have on hand. As said above, make sure the split is at the bottom.
I know the voices aren't real but damn they have some good ideas!
