26-27 open car rear view mirror

Post by TA Man » Fri Jun 17, 2022 12:33 pm

Does anyone have photos of an accessory rear view mirror for the 26-27 open cars and pickups?

You can purchase new reproductions of the open car mirror that was Ford standard from Sept 1924 to 1927

This mirror mounts over the upper windshield frame, that from that late 1924 has two holes drilled in about the center of the frame to secure the mirror with 2 small bolts and nuts.

You really need a rear view mirror in a T. (Unless you are an owl) I have one like the one in the pic in my roadster, and it's a great help. In fact, it's a necessity. A couple of good outside mirrors to go with it is even better. They will vibrate at some speeds, but you can still use them. If I'm in any doubt about what's behind me due to the mirror vibrating, I reach up and grip it between two fingers, which clears up the image. I stay out of traffic, so far as possible, but even out in the open county, I frequently need to pull over to let people by. You do NOT want to turn left in front of someone passing you, either.

Yep, if it don't vibrate, it ain't a T or an A!

My thought on this is, because of the new rear view mirror being introduced in late 1924, that necessitated changing the rear curtain widow to the retangular shape that was used for the 1925 - 1927 years.

True. On my ‘24 which came with the windshield mount mirror , looking back through the back curtain is like seeing out a split-window Corvette!

All you really see is the division between the two small windows. :(
