Pickup fenders

I believe the original body on my T was a roadster. With the pickup box on it the fenders do not come close to the box. Not sure of the year of the box and I will have to sand on the frame to read the serial #. It is licensed as a 26 but that was because of the motor I had when I applied for a title55 years ago. I was a kid then and did not know of a serial # on the frame. Just checked the frame serial # and it comes out as a 26.
I cannot figure out how to post an image but there is a 3 inch gap between the fender and box. Any suggestions?

Just because the Frame is a 1926 is no sign the body is also a 1926.

A 1921 body works fine on a 1926 frame!

The body is a 26.

The 26-27 pickup uses the same fenders as a 26-27 runabout. You may not have the right pick up bed if the fenders do not fit.

Fenders bolt to the box on 26-7's. There can be no gap. What holds the fenders on/up? Picture.

Are the rear fenders for a 26 that you know of? If your sure that the body is a 26 I’m thinking that if it’s like the earlier T roadsters which were either or and a pickup box would be OK to work. Maybe an earlier PU box?
The pickup fenders for a 26 may be different than the ones for a 26 Roadster.
Others that have 26-27 T pickups or Roadsters would know. The pics on the net show the 26 fenders are almost flush with the pickup box.

The Ford factory 1926-27 roadster pickup uses 1926-27 roadster and coupe rear fenders bolting directly to the factory bed. One possibly for the large gap is that you have 1926-27 touring or sedan rear fenders. Another possibility is that you have the wrong year pickup bed. A 1925 Ford model T bed or a 1928-30 Ford model A wouldn’t fit correctly, the 25 T bed uses a straight fender iron, and the 28-30 A bed uses a special spacer to mount the fender. A third possibility is that your car is a cut off 1926-27 touring and is using the touring car fenders. A picture would help to pin things down so club members can give you some ideas on how to proceed to fix things as best as you can.

[I will try to add pictures. The body has a solid metal floor. .the fenders have a bracket in the rear portion that attaches to the frame or subframe, I am not sure. Had a knee replaced a few weeks ago and I am not fully flexable yet.
As far as I know the turtle deck is still sitting in a back pasture in South Dakota where I last saw it.
I cannot tell you how the front of the fenders were attached as I had to unbolt and remove some things when It was loaded on a small trailer 50 years ago to move it to Oregon.
Does anyone have the internal detentions of the metal boxes for the various years. The box I have is possibly wrong but it is what I have and adapter brackets brackets can be made to secure the fenders or a wood box made to fit. This T is for my pleasure, not for show so modifications are acceptable as long as it is safe to drive. I see a lot of modifications on other T's that have been done.

From your ultra close up pictures it is hard to tell for sure about your fenders and bed. The pickup bed looks to be a correct 1926-27 Ford roadster pickup bed. The fender looks to be a fender for a 1926-27 Ford T touring . You will need to find a pair of the 1926-27 Ford roadster / coupe fenders, they will be wider and stepped down and attach to the bed. These fenders are sought after and harder to find than the touring fender.

One thing you could do is to take off the pickup box that you have and build a wood pickup box that will fit nicely between the fenders that you have. More than a few T’s over the years have been altered some to suit the owners needs. Tourings were made into pickups by removing the back half. And of course Roadsters had the turtle back removed to make a more useable car around the farm by adding a homemade pickup box.
The company Rootlieb that makes nice reproduction T fenders makes most T fenders EXCEPT rear fenders for the 26-27 Roadsters. The originals are getting harder to find as has been stated.

That fender looks like 17-25 Roadster Touring. Can’t tell for sure, need better pictures.

Believe your fender is a rear 26-27 touring/sedan fender, not made to fit to your pickup. The bed you have is 26-27, just need to find a pair of correct rear fenders, 26-27 roadster/coupe/pickup.
