Motorcycle Gas Tank Old Sealer Coming off (Honda CB77)

Hi,

I restored a 1964 Honda Superhawk CB77 20 years ago. The gas tank had a lot of rust so I did the bolts and nuts, muriatic acid treatment then used the recommended sealer for the time Kreem. It is now peeling off. What should I do to get it back in service?

I have used MEK to soften and remove some sealers. Acetone will also work on some sealers. If you can get a chip out, try seeing what will soften it. When what works is found, seal the drains and pour in the remover. Let it soak, and pour the whole mess out. Ventilate the tank well, compressed air to dry it and then set it out in the sun to evaporate the remainder. Re seal with new sealer as per the instructions.

that Kreme breaks loose in big sheets and clogs filters. I think the modern fuel blends ruin it.
Just be careful using Redcoat. Startron and Stabil will dissolve the stuff and it will clog your fuel system and worse.

There is alot more by google but the point is, clean the tank very well and use a filter.
Liner is not working in the long term.
my personal experience is with briggs and stratton gas tanks and the red coat dissolved quickly due to use of Startron, and the entire engine is gooped after a hours run from a total rebuild. I will no longer be using tank liners.
