Stay hydrated !

Post by Rich P. Bingham » Wed Dec 14, 2022 11:17 am

Stolen from the FB group: we don't see many photos of "California tops". In this case, it's a "Nebraska top" and the owner is very likely giving his wheels a "drink" to keep them from getting loose in a very dry climate.

several things about that picture make me wonder! one is: was the road flooded, or are they soaking the wheels to tighten the spokes" Another: why were they called, "California tops"? seems like California is less affected by weather and the top would be named for "Chicago" or Montana or somewhere with more weather conditions.

An old friend had a 26 Studebaker with what he called a California Top. I googled California Tops and found a company in Edmonton, Alberta Canada "California Tops" that makes custom tops for off road vehicles, etc.

I am guessing this picture was taken in western Douglas County near Omaha. And there is an excellent possibility my Grandpa knew the owner of this T.
