my first time importing tires, has anyone had to fill out a declaration form to get them through customs? Help me out.

When I ordered mine I didn’t have to do anything. They shipped them next day, customs held onto them for a week. UPS sent me a bill, paid it and got my tires. Same as any other online purchase except for the customs step.

Bought Blockleys in September, no customs, no charges, tires and tubes just arrived via FedEx and UPS. If customs held them or did anything it was hidden, no additional paperwork, no additional $$$. All arrived within a week of purchase.

Now I just got several emails saying I owe 12.50$ times 12 for the individual parts. I ordered 5 tires and 5 tubes, I'm not sure where they came up with 12, and another saying I owe 75.02 for import fees. I don't get it. they were shipped UPS.

I did finally get to talk to a human, turns out unless things change before they get here, I only owe $75.02. I guess it just depends on who gets them when they come through customs what it's going to cost.

I intend to buy mine in pairs. 1 To spread the expense over two months or more. 2 To keep the value of each shipment under the threshold for import fees. I'll let you know if that works.

Custom's fees are billed to the importer and record. That can be the importer (and then billed to the buyer) or by the buyer when it lands in the destination country. All depends on how the customs document was filled out. The items are held in a bonded warehouse until the duty is paid. So when you see it held up in customs its likely waiting for confirmation that the duty was paid. A "bonded warehouse" may be owned by the government, the importer or a private company so there can be delays in moving through that network.

So far haven't seen any documents to see how things are being charged to understand differences in what people are paying for.

As far as avoiding paying Duty by keeping it under a threshold may or may not pay depending on the shipping costs, once or twice.
