Interesting lines in radiator to block pipe

A recent purchase of a Tudor had these two 3/4" pipes going to a small about 1 1/2 gallon steel tank under the floorboard under the driver seat. No water pump. Anyone ever seen this before and why? Heater, extra capacity for cooling, etc

Looking at that, I don't see what purpose it would serve. To use a hot water heater in a T, you would need a heater unit with a fan inside the car and you'd need to add a water pump. Water would need to be taken from the cylinder head outlet and returned to the lower radiator pipe. A heater fan would tax the capacity of a stock T generator. If you want to add engine cooling capacity to a T, you need to add heat exchanging area, not water volume capacity.

My thoughts exactly. But someone sure went to a lot of work for a nice looking installation. The new owner will remove it all once he gets it home !

Probably used the set-up for extreme cooling, on the hottest days …or hard hill pulls when the engine over heats.

The owner just planned ahead and put ice in that storage container under the seat, instant cooling.

When you see things like this on a "T", there are almost always bound to be more, and less pleasing things to be found in the future.

Are you sure it was for cooling the engine, or might it be used to warm the seat for cold weather? Modern cars have electric seat warmers on them, so this might be an early idea to warm up the seat. On a 26-27 there is no gas tank under the seat.

Wondering if the return tube has a dam in it, between the two hose outlets, to force coolant through the add-on tank. Not saying that would work, or why anyone would do it...

That does help cool . Years ago I bouight a very nice 1923 (22 style) coupe that over heated after 30 minutes of use. I installed a system similar to this mone using a two gallon tank back in the rear area. Drove the T for 20 years and it never over heated after that.

There was one of them in the Fordor years back, had a hole in the head and the other side water outlet, this tank was under the dash on passenger side.

Ford had good reasons not to use a tank cooling system.
If more cooling is actually needed, rather than radiator service, adding something like a heater core might be helpful. It would have to be plumbed the way the radiator is plumbed in order for the thermosyphon principle to function. Finding space for it would be a challenge.
