Why Do You Like Chickasha ?....
....and I’ll start it off: tie between J&W Grill and Braum’s Ice Cream. We don’t have either in south Texas
..And I’m bringing a surprise to Steve Jelf

I used to like Chickasha a lot, but now it's only half the size it used to be. It's not worth the expense to fly out there any more. Too bad.

Any real world event has to compete with the virtual world, among many other obstacles. Even WalMart is moving a lot of merchandise on-line. Trade in obsolete stuff is brisk on ebay.
When I was a kid, there were many local retailers and a few chains, like Western Auto and A&P, offering almost anything you could want, including jobs, right here locally. That's over with, and that's unfortunate.

Living near the north pole, Chickasha has always been a good break from winter, most years...not looking good this year ! I don't think I have ever missed one since the start. Some years I sell, all years I buy. See folks that I only see once a year. Yeah, it was bigger and better in years past, but I still enjoy the trip. years back when diesel fuel hit 5 bucks was when we lost a lot of the long distance vendors, some never to return. I'll be there until the end !

I leave for Chickasha on Wednsday, from Tucson. Looking forward to the trip, and looking forward to the Swap Meet. You never know what you will find. There have been some amazing things there, and you would only see them by being there in person.
A LOT of people with pre-war stuff DO NOT USE COMPUTERS, and DO NOT SELL ON EBAY. They are the ones who show up at Chickasha with a trailer full of unusual items.
The ONLY way to see the stuff and have the possibility of buying it, is if you show up.
Sorry about all the stuff that people missed because they didn't bother going. Oh, well.
I don't know of ANY other swap meet that is dedicated to early cars, and not flooded with 57 Chevy and Mustang crap. To me, anything after 1915 is just a used car, the same as some 1952 pickup truck.
If I had a 57 T-bird, I would cut the top off of it, so I could haul more Model T parts.

Luray way back east, and Tulare way out west. In the middle, I think Chickasha is pretty much it.
The inevitable often happens.

Re: Why Do You Like Chickasha ?....
It's great for buying and selling big/heavy things that are difficult or expensive to ship! There is also plenty of eye candy, and it's all relevant to the hobby as opposed to most swap meets. Is it as big as it used to be? No. Is it more than you can lay eyes on in two days and truly see everything (see each tree instead of the forest)? Yes.

It’s a great time. I always meet some interesting people and find 90% of what I’m looking for each year. It’s the only pre-war this part of the country, it’s worth the drive and expense for me!!

Re: Why Do You Like Chickasha ?....
I like the fact that something big and exciting is going on. I have never been. We have talked about going the last few years, but a local car show always falls on that date. The reports and photos from it give me a boost because there are cars and parts far more interesting there than at our show. Like the cars I will never have, it is something great to see and think about.
Maybe someday.
