Wanted: Rader Distributor Body Only !

Post by RajoRacer » Fri May 05, 2023 5:19 pm

Any chance of an "orphan" distributor housing for a Bill Rader distributor hanging on a wall or nail in somebody's garage ??? Friend brought in a rebuilt engine all covered & wrapped as it made a 1000 mile road trip and "someone" pushed on the front of the engine not knowing what was under the package ! Needless to say, the little arm that grabs the original timer clamp bolt got broken clean off ! I'd rather replace than have it welded.

Drop me a note through the Forum, please.

Hi Steve,
Are you talking about the arm that bolts the drive to the engine through a generator bolt?
Craig.

Here's what a Rader distributor looks like. I guess I might be able to "swing" it farther left if I don't hit the oil fill cap !

Hi Steve,
The reeder distributor on my speedster I did pull all the way down into the notch and yes it will be in the way. Not so much the cap but
trying to pour oil in to the fill. I put a elbow with a 90* piece that sweeps up at 45* for a fill out of a ( this is going to hurt ) heat riser tube
of a 1980s Chevy. Makes it a breeze to add oil but may have hood clearance issues if to long.
Craig.

Steve, just curious by why not re-weld the broken piece back onto the body? Is it because of the porosity, -or that you are afraid you wont be able to get the alloy clean enough??

My S.I.L.'s little brother is a "whiz-bang" aluminum welder - he could weld it but it's a 2+ hour ride there & back. It's never been installed so welding it should be O.K. I was never too keen on that arm arrangement on those distributors !

Could you mount a plate with a slot cut at the same arc?
