Henry Ford's Car

Post by CatGuy » Wed Dec 06, 2023 10:04 am

This may have, probably has come up before, but I just started thinking about this last night. Whatever happened to Henry's personal Model T or Model T's? In a museum somewhere?

I know that there was a couplet custom made for him and edsel. They were modified cosmeticly as years went by. Henry's car was destroyed in an accident. Edsel's car went to the Henry Ford Museum and was sold off to fund a project and is now in possession of our chapter president and he drives it.
Just a 20 year old who listens to 40 year old music, works on 75 year old airplanes and drives 100 year old cars.
The past is only simple because hindsight is 20/20.

That's pretty neat!

I saw one of his cars at his winter estate in Florida. If I remember correctly there was also a car he gave Edison there.

From a very suspect memory;
I believe Henry Ford and Frank Kulick each had a couplet that was upgraded over the years. I think one, or both were at OCF several years ago by the show field tent? I’m sure someone will correct my feeble recollections.

Edsel had several custom made cars over the years. One, a six cylinder closed valve custom T roadster, is owned by Speedway Motors (Museum of Speed) in Lincoln NE.

Also, Henry Fords personal Model K is reported to exist, according to a former employees Reminiscences. That’s another story in and of itself.
Cheers,
Rob

I believe the T he gave Edison was a Brass Touring. Not exactly sure but Edison did a few improvements to it since he was an experimenter to begin with.

On dusplay at the Edison and Ford Winter Estates in Florida is the 1915 Touring that was given to Edison by Ford. The touring car has an upgraded ignition system that includes a dashboard switch. The docent indicated they did not have a key for it. I offered to donate a key if they would allow me to cross the ropes to examine the switch key tumbler. Key # 70 was sent to them in February 2021.

Henry's Coupelet was on display on the turntable in the garage at Fairlane when I visited many years ago. It looks like the car pictured above? I now wonder if the car was on loan to Fairlane or it was sold at some point. That would be so cool to own and drive a T that Henry drove. If it is now privately owned I would love to hear more from the owner.
