Neighbor's Dad T Speedster story from 1928-9

Post by DanTreace » Sun Feb 04, 2024 7:53 pm

My neighbor Sterling shared this story, and these great photographs of the time with me and thought it would be a good one to share

Seems his dad Willie hand built this T speedster he named "Bare Model" It had Rajo Overhead valves, counter balanced crank, and attached high-tension magneto for ignition. The body he built using cowling from aircraft and windshield too. Note the huge exhaust pipe. Body had a boat tail design and clover leaf seating.

Story as told is the two characters shown, Willie Hubbard (at the helm) and his closet friend Robert Beatie seated in the setback passenger seat.

Beginning of summer of 1929 they drove from NE Ohio (where photos were taken) to the Bitterroot Valley of Montana, camping all the way with only heavy canvas sleeping bags, seen above the boat-tail. Beatie's father gave them a new set of tires for the trip, and Sterling remarked his dad told him those tires were worth more than the car...... what an adventure for these young guys.
