Our first YouTube video of the T

Post by dobro1956 » Fri Apr 07, 2023 12:21 am

Been trying for a while to figure the YouTube thing out. We did a few short test videos, and finally got a 12-minute video to post. It has been a pretty tough learning process for an old timer :) We are wanting to do a lot more vintage camping with the T and to post some of our trips to YouTube. We also do modern "overlanding" camping with our modern rig. So, we want to try and merge the two different styles of camping together to show the differences between back in the day and todays style of camping. Last fall we took the T and our vintage camp setup to a modern overland rendezvous. It amazed us as to the amount of interest that everyone at the event showed in the car and the history of early camping. Due to that event, we were invited to go to the Moore Expo in Springfield MO. It is one of the largest overlanding events in the US. We were invited at no cost to us, and we get to have all the free perc's of paid vendors. Free food, free camping, free admission, and lots of folks to talk about Model Ts with, how could we decline the offer :). There will be thousands of modern overlanders at this event. This video is our first real attempt at producing videos of all the vintage camping we are planning on with the T. It's not very good, and just covers us getting the T ready to go. I will have to learn how to talk to the camera better and learn better editing techniques. We have been doing off-grid, back country, fully self-contained, camping for several years. We thought we should combine the two different styles to see what happens. Please don't pick my editing to pieces but input is always appreciated on the things we are trying to learn. We will be filming the Moore expo and will try to post a link to it after the show. Since our YouTube channel is titled "Model T Camp and Adventures" most of the videos will always be Model T related.

Thanks, we hope to really up the quality as we learn the editing software better. We hope to be using a drone soon, using tripods for exterior shots, we have multiple mounts for the cameras on the car to use instead of holding the camera. I still have to learn the audio side of things for background music, etc. We have big plans, now we only have to work out the bugs.

Here is another link of one of the little, short tests videos we did at first It was taken on the Trans American Trail (TAT trail) near us. It shows a little bit of how the roads are all around us in the Ozarks of Arkansas. Lots of water crossings ...

In my humble opinion, I think you have the tube videos nailed to the front door!
And water crossings in real time! You two made it fun.
Since I lost my mind mind, I feel more liberated

I see no problem with the editing. You're doing fine. The only technical improvement I can suggest is one I need to do too: get an external microphone for speaking on-camera. In my case that will require a different camera, but maybe yours has a provision for adding one. On-camera speaking is clearer and easier to hear when the microphone is on the person rather than on the camera.

Folks who haven't done it may not realize how hard it is to drive with one hand and make a decent video shot with the other. You're doing that nicely too.
The inevitable often happens.

Steve, As Model T drivers we just barely have enough hands and feet to drive a Model T. :) In my case I also have a Warford to deal with. It gets interesting when you also add the camera. Most of the time the camera is Kathys problem. She is trying to learn to keep her fingers out of the way when we hand-off the camera. :) An external mic is one of the "to get" items. I can get one for the go-pro camera.

This video is superb! Very well done. Congratulations. It's a real challenge, I know. Beautiful car too - it runs wonderfully. If you find any of my camera or sound recording techniques helpful, just let me know. I will be happy to share. https://www.youtube.com/@flivverchannel

Flivver, Thanks for the comments. We went modern rig camping over the weekend. Checking out a few spots to do our first camping video in. Beautiful spot in the Ozarks near the Buffalo National River. We do not really have time before the Moore expo. But after that we should have plenty of time. We have watched a little of your channel. Looks interesting and will be watching more. We only have service at home to watch stuff on. Most of the time when we are camping, or on trails in the Ozarks we are totally "off grid" We have been looking into "star-link" for use with the modern rig. Not sure it would look period correct with the vintage rig :).

I like the idea of Starlink mounted on the T runningboards!

I totally get where you're coming from with the YouTube journey. Combining different camping styles sounds like a unique angle, and I'm sure your content will resonate with many. Keep at it, and I'm looking forward to seeing your adventures with the T and at the Moore Expo!

I've been there too, wanting to start my channel for ages, and finally, I've got https://www.youtube.com/@DriftinN2Freedom, where I share videos from my travels. The whole editing part was daunting at first, but Movavi really helped me out. Not only did it make editing videos a breeze, but it also came in handy as a free image converter, which was super useful for creating thumbnails and other visuals for my channel.

Ol Gezzer, This was an older post, We now have 12 videos at this time and we are getting a little better. If you have not seen all the videos, do a Google search for Model T Camp and Adventures. We may pop up as a few different results. The YouTube result will display better than the Facebook link. We film in 4K and YouTube will play back in 4K but for some reason Facebook cuts the quality of our videos ?? Springtime is getting closer. Then we can get back to more camping :)
